The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has reaffirmed its commitment to promote and protect the rights of older persons in Nigeria.

Speaking on behalf of NHRC Executive Secretary Dr. Tony Ojukwu, Director of Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights Mr. Harry Obe assured the Coalition of Societies for the Rights of Older Persons in Nigeria (COSROPIN) of the Commission's continued support.



The NHRC has been a vocal advocate for issues affecting older persons, working to protect the rights of all Nigerians, particularly vulnerable and marginalized groups.

Mr. Obe confirmed the Commission's participation in the upcoming public hearing at the National Assembly on the Older Persons Rights and Privileges Bill and pledged to collaborate with COSROPIN on relevant programs.

COSROPIN President Senator Eze Ajoku commended the NHRC's support and highlighted the importance of partnerships in embedding the rights and welfare of older persons within Nigeria's human rights agenda. Senator Ajoku appealed to the NHRC to formally represent and support the Older Persons Rights and Privileges Bill during the public hearing, emphasizing the need for stronger collaboration between COSROPIN and the NHRC to build effective advocacy frameworks.
